Kim Sims
Principal, President


Kim Sims has over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry working in all phases of hotel operations. He represents a third generation in the industry following his grandfather who owned two motor hotels in the Washington/Baltimore area in the 1930's and his parents who opened their first hotel in College Park in the 1950's. This represents the foundation for MHI's philosophy of customer service and hospitality.
 
Before becoming President, Sims was Executive Vice President Operations. He was responsible for overseeing all aspects of hotels operations and was instrumental in the growth of the company revenues to over $100 million annually. He has experience working with multiple brands including Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Sheraton and Holiday Inn, as well as, independent and condo hotel properties. His experience includes operation of upscale full service to select service hotels.
 
As President, Sims has guided the company's expansion of the corporate sales & marketing and revenue management team to improve field support and promote effective rate and yielding strategies. He is actively involved with property ownership to assure that performance goals are accomplished and he is focused on the continued measured growth of the company that promotes this individual attention.
 
A graduate of Washington & Lee University in Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree - Special Attainment in Commerce, Sims is involved in his community through the American Hotel Lodging Association, University of Maryland Terrapin Club and the Washington National Cathedral.

Steve Smith
Principal, Executive Vice President Operations


Steve Smith has the distinction of being the first non-family member invited onto the Board of Directors and Principal of MHI Hotels.  Similar to the Sims brothers, Smith began his hospitality career at a young age.  Contrary to the brothers' early experiences, his background was food and beverage. 
 
Working to pay his own way through school, he spent six summers in Ocean City, Maryland learning restaurant operations from Phillips Seafood Restaurants and the Harrison Group Hotels (both family run businesses).  Smith was exposed to management responsibilities to total unit operations.  His F&B expertise remains vital to the success of MHI while his ability to recruit and lead executive level property managers has become his forte'. 
 
A graduate of Washington & Lee University in Virginia with a bachelor's degree in economics, Smith remains active in the National Restaurant Association and as a Board Member of the Restaurant Association Of Maryland (RAM).  In 2000, Smith received the prestigious Schellhase Award from RAM in recognition for his vastly successful contributions to the organization.  He is also a member of the American Hotel Lodging Association and the Society of Human Resource Managers.
