Slip, Trip & Fall Prevention

MHI is committed to creating a safe workplace for our team members and our guests. In order to guarantee the safest environment possible, we rely on YOU to keep your eyes open for any potential hazardous situations and to communicate with management once a problem area is spotted.  Below you will find some helpful suggestions to help prevent slips and falls.

AREAS IN HOTELS WHERE SLIPS, TRIPS AND FALLS CAN OCCUR

~  Parking lots and sidewalks can pose slip, trip and fall hazards because they are exposed to varying weather conditions.  Parking lots may also have slippery areas caused by leaking oil and grease from motor vehicles.  Obstacles that can cause trips include cracked pavements and sidewalks, changes in elevation from parking lots to sidewalks, etc.

~  Other outdoor public areas also contain slip, trip and fall hazards:

  • Sidewalks with bark, stone, wet leaves or flowers on them

  • Sprinkler heads in landscaped areas

  • Transition seams between sidewalks, concrete slabs and similar surfaces

~  Entrances to hotels may have many people coming and going and when there’s bad weather outside, people tend to bring it inside, tracking water, snow and slush on their footwear.

~   Lobbies, hallways and other interior public areas are usually full of people and movement that can cause potential hazards.  Substances on floors and changes in elevation can also cause interior hazards.

~  Stairways and ramps can have hazards caused by poor conditions such as poor lighting, damaged stairs, loose handrails, or clutter and debris.

Areas with food and beverage services may be hazardous due to ice, beverage and food spills.

~  Pools and saunas can have hazards caused by water.

~  Back of the house areas (such as the kitchen and the laundry room) have the potential for spills and obstacles that can create slip, trip and fall hazards.

~  Public restroom and guest bathrooms can be hazardous due to water or liquid soap on the floors or in tubs and showers.

We get so busy during the course of our workday, hurrying to the next task, assuming someone else will correct a safety issue.  Consider how much time it really takes to clean up a spill or to contact maintenance or a supervisor to attend to a problem immediately.  MHI asks that YOU take charge to help make your property a SAFE haven for all.  It will benefit you, our guests and your fellow team members.  We sincerely appreciate your help.
